Raju has 14 currency notes. Consisting of only ₹ 20 and ₹ 10 notes. The total money value of notes is ₹ 230. The number of ₹ 10 notes that Raju has is
-
Solution
Let no. of 10 rupees notes be x.
∴ No.of 20 rupees notes = 14 – x
10x + 20 (14 – x)= 230
⇒ 10x + 280 – 20x = 230
⇒ 10x = 50x = 5
∴ There are 5 ten rupees notes.
A firm is selling its products at ₹ 60 per unit. Total cost of production is ₹ 100 and the firm is earning total profit of ₹ 500. Later the total cost is increased by 30%. By what percentage the price should be increased to maintain the same profit level.
-
Solution
Case I
Let the number of units be x
∴ Total selling price = 60x
Profit = selling price – total cost
⇒ 500 = 60x – 100
⇒ 60x = 600x = 10
Case II
Total cost = 100 (1.3) = 130
Let selling price be P
Profit = selling price – total cost
500 = P × 10 – 130
∴ P × 10 = 360
∴ P = 63
% increase = \(\frac{63 - 60}{60} \times 100 = 5\%\)
If |4x – 7| = 5 then the value of 2|x| – |x| is
-
Solution
|4x - 7| = 5
⇒ 4x - 7 = ±5
Case I
4x – 7 = 5
⇒ 4x = 12
x = 3
Case II
4x – 7 = – 5
⇒ 4x = 2
⇒ x = 1⁄2
Case I (x = 3)
(2 × 3) – |– 3| = 6 – 3 = 3
Case II (x = 1⁄2)
(2 × 1⁄2) - (1 - 1⁄2) = 1 - 1⁄2 = 1⁄2
A transponder receives the same number of orders each day. Currently, he has some pending orders (back logs) to be shipped. If he uses 7 trucks, then at the end of the 4th day,he can clear all the orders. Alternatively if he uses only 3 trucks, then all the orders are cleared at the end of the 10th day. What is the minimum number of trucks required so that there will be no pending orders at the end of the 5th day?
-
Solution
Find truck load days in both cases
I case
Truck load days = 7 × 4 = 28
II case
Truck load days = 3 × 10 = 30
Take 30 truck load days.
Truck load days = no. of trucks × no. of days
30 = x × 5
∴ x = 6
